Year Zero
This piece is a reference to the demonic regime of chaos and terror unleashed on the south east asian country of Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge and it's leader Pol Pot.
The Khmer Rouge adopted an extreme ideological view of government based on a raw and purely academic vision of communism; their rule is virtually unparalleled in modern history in it's zealotry and disregard for individual life.
Year Zero was a political doctrine produced by Pol Pot; its aim was to reset the country to a new age of communal society. Pulling on various earlier political theories from the French revolution; proponents of the doctrine believed that for a truly equal society to be achieved all existing political and cultural mechanisms of that society must first be destroyed. They believed that only out of the rubble of the past could a true utopia be born. Millions would die in the resulting social upheaval and vicious purges against intellectuals and dissenters.
